Mountain Bagged is a website that provides internet based resources to help those keen on getting into the mountains. Mountain Bagged is not an organized club and has few resources beyond a $10 domain name and some rented virtual space. However, the intended value in the Mountain Bagged site is a forum that allows the sharing of information from willing members. The larger the base of contributers, the higher the quality of the information on Mountain Bagged. Also, the longer the site is up, the better the content will get.
Out of a need to have a simple, cheap (read free), fast and efficient way to share information and network, Mountain Bagged was created. The site has four main components; the wiki, the photo gallery, the message board and the trip report blog. These four tools are described below in detail. Through these tools members will have access to some of the best (and debatably worst) the internet has to offer the self-propelled outdoor community. Sharing knowledge and networking will help members organize better and safer trips, and Mountain Bagged is a collection of geeky tools designed to do just that.
The Wiki will be a place to share knowledge and organize trips. When complete, there will be sections on trip descriptions, back-county recipes, and articles on outdoor topics. Wikis can be edited by anyone who has a user name and password and the addition of content and editing is encouraged. If you find an error, please correct it. If you find something omitted, please expand it. Content should improve with time and the number of contributers which is the beauty of Wikis.
The message board will be a place to ask random questions and hope to get an answer. You can try and sell things, find a partner (climbing or otherwise), ask for trip beta or do other such random things. Posting on the message board is sorta like fishing, you might get a bight, you might not, but if you do catch something, hopefully it isn't a sucker.
Pictures are best when shared. Insert bad cliché here. This gallery is not meant to compete with personally galleries on Fotki, Picasa, etc, but is simply a place to post pictures used in trip reports, on the wiki, or just to share.
Trip reports are really the heart of Mountain Bagged. Trip reports inspire people to get out, provide information to help them do so, and can be entertaining to read; which is really what Mountain Bagged is all about. Mountain Bagged's goal is to to try and help people get out in the mountains and share the experience in a timely manner to help others. Trip reports are like a back-country massage circle, but with less odour. If everyone rubs someone else's back in a semi-organized way, we all get a back rub.
